In a dream, I see Chuck Berry in a recording studio picking at a guitar listlessly. There is the distinct air of exasperation. I am bearing witness to the very depths of a marathon session.
Berry says to himself, "But does it have to be rock roll music every time . . . "
It's almost a question.
From the control room: "Sorry, Mr. Berry, we missed what you were saying."
Berry shakes his head, gestures dismissively.
Berry says, "We're back to one."
"Yes sir, Mr. Berry, we're rolling it back."
Berry smiles ironically.
It just has to be you-know-what, doesn't it? he thinks.
The marathon session stretches on into the mysterious night . . .
